TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Victor needs a special someone with patience and who is understands sleep startle in greyhounds.
Victor is a rather adorable 3 year old, who is a firm favourite with a lot of our volunteers.
He is good when out with dogs both small and large and absolutely great on the lead – you could easily forget he is there.
Victor is a people dog. He just loves the attention and constantly wags his tail.
TREATS!! He just loves a treat a will willingly just ‘sit’ or ‘lay’ for them. (Sit? does he know he’s a greyhound? 😆)
However Victor does suffer from quite severe Sleep Startle, therefore he will need to be an only pet and would need a home with no resident or visiting children. He also doesn’t like his feet being fussed so a muzzle is a must when clipping his nails or drying his feet.
We’ve had him checked out to make sure that he’s not experiencing any pain which may explain his behaviour but he’s fit as a fiddle – he’s just a dog who likes his own space.
One of our volunteers reported after taking him to the park as a treat for his birthday:
“What a gorgeous, friendly boy he is.
He had to be helped into the car but once in he sat down and looked out of the back window for the trip to the park.
Victor behaved impeccably, walking nicely alongside me. He was ok with dogs up close, we met the man with his pug and shih tzu and stopped to chat with him. The little dogs were right under Victor’s nose but he wasn’t bothered by them at all. He was more interested in dogs running in the distance and stopped to look at them. A couple of times he whimpered but was happy to move on.
Despite it being very quiet in the park today three lots of people stopped me to ask about Victor and the work we do; it really is so beneficial for our dogs to get them out and about and promote them. Victor was happy to accept fuss from everyone, including a toddler.
We stopped a few times for photos and bless him, he sat for a treat at the first time of asking.
I had to lift him into the car again and he lay down straight away but with his head and paws hanging over the boot edge! It took several attempts to fold him in enough to close the hatch!! He travels really well, lay down the whole way back.
Victor is known to have sleep startle so can’t be homed with young children but for the right family I think he will be a lovely pet.
