TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
A visit out to the park with one of our volunteers, travelled well in the car and happily jumped out at the park. There were plenty of small dogs which he made a few squeals at but then settled down. He went to people for a fuss whenever he could and was excited when he saw a squirrel run close by. He is a strong dog but not sure why he is getting overlooked.
Henry also went for a home visit, here is what our volunteer had to say
We took him for a quick walk to the park first where there were lots of dogs of different sizes out and about. He was interested and watchful, but not aggressive in any way. He wasn’t fazed by a noisy tractor, which passed close by as it was cutting the grass.
He froze only once at the park, because he wanted to go a particular route but was easy enough to move on. On the way home we had to pass two dogs – a Bassett hound and a collie cross in the narrow gulley, which he managed without hesitation.
Henry was definitely most relaxed in the garden. He loved having a kick about with a ball and later discovered the delights of the ‘toy box’ – enjoying making his own selections and carrying each one in turn outside to road test. He could smell the cats in the home and garden, but did all his scent marking and toileting outside. We gave him a pig’s ear which he took gently and very much enjoyed, once he figured out how to get his chops around it. In the house he was panting heavily and took a long time to settle.
I think this was more because he was mindful of the resident dogs and unsure of his place in the hierarchy. Henry is a delightful, playful chap. I think he could live as an only dog quite happily and in a family setting.
Oh we do hope there is a home out there for Henry who is getting overlooked – could you be the person who could take on this strong but really loveable greyhound
