Luke is just a youngster who never got the hang of racing, turning the wrong way once in the traps! So it was early retirement for this gorgeous boy.

Luke was reserved quite quickly once he came into the Trust and went home on trial but although the family said he was a lovely dog, he was too “puppy-like” for them and felt they were better suited to an older dog so Luke is back in kennels waiting for his forever family.

One of our volunteers took him out since being back and reported:

We took Luke out for 3-4hrs on Saturday morning (including for a pub lunch), and really enjoyed our time with him.

He walks beautifully on the lead, no pulling or whirling, and just seems happy to be out and about when having his walk. He has plenty of energy (being only 2), and is a inquisitive young chap as you would expect.

He can get a little over enthusiastic when entering the house as I think he associates the indoors with food, so he’s immediately keen to get his mask off when he comes in, ready for his ‘big feed’. He does not try and snatch food though and is willing to be patient when told firmly.

He responds really well to a very soft quiet calming voice and loves 1:1 company, which I think makes him feel secure.

He’s also a good traveller, settling down well in the car for his snooze.

I think he is going to make a wonderful pet for a family or individual and has so much life and love to give, but as with all puppies he will need a little more training and needs to feel he has a trusted guiding hand by his side. We didn’t see any other dogs or cats so can’t comment on that, (his foster career said he is a little unsure of small dogs who bark at him and doesn’t know how to respond, and therefore socialisation around these types of dog is going to be one of the first aspects of training for Luke), but any experienced or previous dog owner will snap him up and have many happy years with him I am sure.

If you are the one for Luke, then give us a ring on 0121 426 4810 or contact us to make an appointment to visit this super youngster.
