New boy Vinnie had a lunchtime trip to Clent one afternoon with one of our volunteers. He is a very handsome brindle boy 😍 but was not a happy chap in the car. 😞 🚗

She said that “he had to be lifted in, and although he lay down fairly quickly, he whined off and on for the short journey. I had a helper with me today, 11 year old Joe, and we did find that when Joe stroked him and talked to him it seemed to help. Thought it best to let Joe get on with that, and I’d concentrate on the driving!!

When we arrived at Clent, Vinnie was very keen to get out of the car and get going. He pulled a bit when we set off, (maybe he was desperate to get away from the car!). Other than that, he walked really nicely. Quite often walking right by my side, particularly as he got tired towards the end of the walk – if he was hoping for a piggy back up the hill he was out of luck!

We met a good mix of dogs of all shapes and sizes when walking up the track and Vinnie was great – interested in the first few but then really not bothered at all. When we reached the top and onto the open hills he saw a dog chasing a ball, he was very keen to join in at first, but he soon settled and just watched for a while before we walked on.

Vinnie wasn’t particularly interested in trying to share our food when we sat down at the cafe after the walk. He stood patiently and was very good at ignoring a very loud Dachshund nearby. He was a little better in the car journey home.

Vinnie is a lovely friendly boy, he was very keen to have a lean and loved having a fuss from Joe, who was more than happy to oblige – I hardly got a look in!”

Remember that although racing greyhounds are usually good travellers, cars with windows can often unsettle them, but with a bit more practise and support, we’re sure he’ll be fine.
