Finding homes for beautiful greyhounds

Murphy

Murphy is a 6 year old black boy who has been in a home since November.

He settled well in to that environment however is owners reluctantly feel he does need someone with more experience of handling greyhounds to give him the extra training he requires. He has been reactive to smaller dogs, cats and squirrels if they get close and so for the time being he is wearing a muzzle when he is out and about.

Murphy has recently been attending training classes with an IMDT trainer and behaviourist and he is proving very trainable and food motivated. The Behaviourist is happy to discuss this with any proposed adopters and we would also be happy to continue to support this training for a very lovely boy.

Overall he is a loving and gentle boy who likes attention from everyone he meets including visitors to the home. He walks well on his lead and he does going out for his walks and he is a good traveller in the car.  He is able to be left alone with no problems however when he gets a little bored he has been known to chew things he can find such as the tv remote, so it’s advisable to ensure things are kept out of reach.

Murphy has been the only pet in the household since he was homed.

Here are some other details provided by his owners:

He gets on with greyhounds generally well and has been on greyhound walks with him.

    Sleeps in the Lounge

A Happy traveller in the car and has been down to Devon from Birmingham for his holidays

Does get on the sofa and enjoys it.

He can be left for periods of time without any problems.

Loves treats and his food very much

He has two walks a day and he does love to do plenty of sniffs

Comfortable with people visiting the house but has had limited visits from children but he is happy for children to stroke him when out walking.

He does not do stairs and has never tried to go up them

Not very interested in playing but likes to have a kong with treats in.

We are looking for someone who has a lot of experience with the greyhound breed and who would be able and willing to provide behavioural training to help Murphy with his reactivity.
